SMOK G80 Review Bottom Line
The SMOK G80 is SMOKTECH’s new footprint in the ‘tiny mod’ marketplace, where the challenge is to provide a super-compact device with an output in the 50W to 100W range without introducing a big battery casing or making the unit too bulky. Combining top performance features with enough power to last a decent time is hard, and putting it into an ultra-slim mod, which can be slipped into a pocket or bag, is not an easy task.
The SMOK G80 builds on SMOK’s experience in this market. The brand has picked up a lovely sleek, lean look with easy-to-use advanced features throughout their range of products, arguably making them one of the best box mod manufacturers in the market. The new G80 has some distinct advantages over other products, and perhaps the most noticeable benefit is taste control.
At first glance, it appears similar to its predecessors, but the new 80W power makes the SMOK G80 a proper little workhorse. The mod comes in gold with black detail, a solid silver, or a black tank with red or green detail. Rings and trimmings are picked out in matching colors. The OLED screen is clean, and the buttons are just where you expect them. Here are the highlights of the new G80:
The unit is built around one 18650 battery, which, in certain circumstances, can be a better option than built-in batteries. It’s sometimes more convenient to slip in a fresh battery than to plug in and recharge, and the battery case is a smooth push-pull design. Not having to pair batteries for your mod has the advantage that you can use older batteries for longer, just to make sure you get your full money’s worth from each one! Battery life always depends on usage, and if you use the G80 at a steady 20 to 30 watts you’ll get a decent day’s vaping out of the battery, but heavier usage (it is, after all, an 80W for a reason!) will require recharging or battery replacement during the day.
The G80 has a no-fuss look and sports an ergonomic design for comfortable handling. The dimensions of the mod are 75.5mm high, 38.5mm wide and a scant 26.5mm thick. The striking OLED screen is easy to read at a quick glance, with all the important information in a neat display: mode, voltage, temperature, amps, resistance and battery level.
The fire button is on the side, right at the top, with the two smaller up/down adjustment buttons just below it. The micro-USB port is situated at the bottom of the unit, in line with the power and navigation buttons. The USB port allows for upgrading the firmware as needed, and also quick charging via micro-USB cable. The operation is familiar: just tap the power button 5 times to switch on, and hold it down for vaping. The auto-safety system cuts the circuit if you hold the button down for longer than 12 seconds, but will resume once you release the button.
Most mods have been standardized to a 510 thread, which makes it easy to replace tanks or experiment with other tank designs. You can easily use 22mm or larger atomizers, though you may have to deal with some overhang from the tanks larger than 24mm.
The Spiral tank holds 2ml e-juice with a top fill feature and Delrin drip tip. The new SMOK Spiral tank is a great asset to this nifty little mini-mod. Although the tank capacity is ‘just’ 2ml, users will find that SMOK’s precise wicking hole placement, in conjunction with quality coils and their highly adjustable 4-hole airflow design, makes for efficient e-juice use and gives a huge difference in multi-level taste. It’s not just saving in terms of money, but fuss! SMOK’s 4-hole airflow system allows for a great deal of custom control, which means a wide variety of enjoyable e-juice flavors and also a choice for users who like to switch between Direct Lung and Mouth-to-Lung hits as most of the best e-cigarettes use this type of control it’s nice to see on this tank.
The kit comes with 2 different coils. Users can experiment with two different coils which are provided with the kit. The mod arrives with a pre-installed 0.6 Ω dual core coil, and the box set also contains another 0.3 Ω dual core for VW mode vaping.
SMOK’s chipset protects users against the dangers of short circuits and overheating and the mode of operation is automatically detected depending on the coil. In VW mode the range is 0.1ohm to 3.5ohms, while in TC mode, the range is 0.05ohms to 1.5ohms.

80W mods are becoming mainstream. The SMOK G80 is a good choice in this category due to its excellent taste production and powerful clouds of vapor, which is now obtainable without the hassle of carrying around a big mod. Like the SMOK Qbox, this mini kit is a very attractive alternative to large mods if you don’t want to deal with bigger battery packs. The G80 Mod is compact, very portable and a fantastic primary device for taste-fiends or as standby device for people who already own ultra-customized mods.
