Reuleaux RXmini Review Bottom Line

The Wismec Reuleaux series needs no introduction due to their very solid and popular RX200S and DNA200, but with the RXmini mod, Wismec has attempted to squeeze all that goodness into a more compact version – not an easy task, to be sure.

The RXmini mod is a compact, well-made clean mod with solid 2100mAh built-in power which lets it power up to 80W. It is not as powerful as its famous big brothers but has enough dependable features to give it a distinct, separate identity among the big guys in the Wismec Reuleaux stable, and to make it a very attractive option in the tiny mod marketplace.

The Reuleaux RX Mini Full Review

The RXmini clearly means business: it has a somewhat dark, very sexy look with psychedelic resin patterns in unique colours. It comes in Red, Black, Grey, Silver and White, and the Reux Mini tank comes in stainless steel or black depending on the color of the mod.

Familiar looks:

The RXmini looks familiar – the same ergonomic design, shape, and prominent OLED screen as the Reuleaux RX200S, but the whole mod is just smaller.  The dimensions are 58mm high, 35.5mm wide and 44.5mm thick.  The fire button is as prominent as we’ve come to expect from the Reuleaux series – a large button with the familiar Jaybo logo, located just above the usual huge OLED screen.

But now Wismec has released another member of the family known as the Wismec Reuleaux Tinker Kit, taking this and other models into consideration to produce one of the best they have released to date.

The Wismec Reuleaux RXmini in silverThe Reuleaux RXmini, however, has a micro USB port – just below the OLED screen – lets you charge the unit via the USB cable, but this port also allows for upgrading firmware (custom logo and a preheat function) and there’s a reset option on the bottom of the unit in case your upgrade does not go to plan.

Familiar screen:

As mentioned above, the RXmini has the same bold signature OLED display we’ve come to know in the RX2/3 and DNA200. It is bright and clean and gives you all the important information at a glance:  temperature, voltage, amps, resistance and battery level.

But – the Buttons:

Due to the mod’s much smaller size, they’ve had to move the adjustment buttons – and they went with a novel idea.  The buttons are now on the bottom of the unit, and you have to turn the mod to the side or upside down to make adjustments. Although operating the RXmini is familiar (5-click on / off and 3-click to enter the menu system) the adjustment buttons (bar) are quite small and somewhat stiff to prevent accidental changes. Users with large hands will need to use their fingernails to adjust the settings, but we found it not to be a deal-breaker, you quickly ‘get’ the feel of the buttons, just not as good as some of the best e-cigarette products we’ve reviewed.

Smaller Size, Smaller Battery:

Size in your hand of the RX Mini ModThe RX mini battery has a built-in Li-Ion 2100mAh unit, which contributes to the small size of this unit. Vapers who puff along steadily at 20 to 30 watts should get a full day’s worth of battery life, but if you let it rip at the full 80 Watts, you’ll need to recharge during the day. Charging is routine using the USB cable for a computer (about 2 hours) or wall adapter (about 1.5 hours).

Mix & Match:

If you feel the need for a bigger tank, the RXmini’s springloaded 510 pin makes it compatible with other 22mm atomizers.  It’s still compatible with larger size tanks, but from a 24mm size and bigger, you will get some overhang which may spoil the good looks of this tiny mod.  It is interesting to note that the tank was designed exclusively for this Reuleaux RXmini, although the tank is not yet available for separate ordering.

The Reux Mini TankTanked Out:

The exclusive, custom-designed Reux Mini Tank holds a pretty decent 2ml e-juice with a top fill feature and a wide bore Delrin drip tip with airflow controls set at the bottom. Although the draw may be loose enough for direct lung hits, it is definitely great for MTL hits.

Coiled Up:

Your RX mini kit has two Triple Coil 0.2Ω ‘tight-draw’ coil heads. The Wismec Reuleaux RXmini chipset is responsible for maintaining temperature control, and the TCR mode manages the various TC wires. Wismec is of the opinion that their new pre-heat function which allows the mod to heat the coil at a higher wattage could extend the life of the coils. They have included this function in the newest firmware upgrade and it’s worth testing in the field!

Circuit Safety:

The dual-circuit protection system guards against overcharging, exceeding safety limits, and over-discharging. The mode of operation determines the range of resistances. In VW mode the range is 0.1ohm to 3.5ohms, while in TC mode, the range is 0.05ohms to 1.5ohms. However, experienced users can also choose the bypass mode to make it a mech mod – possibly a handy function for advanced users who choose the RXmini as an additional or standby mod.

Does this make it one of the best box mods around right now? Well not quite, as it’s really designed for those on the go who want to carry their mod around with them and for that reason there are a number of sacrifices like battery life and functions. That said for a mobile mod, it’s definetely right up there!

OVERALL

If you love the Wismec Reuleaux’s sturdy look and feel but prefer a slightly smaller and lighter version of that Wismec Reuleaux signature design, this mini kit is a very attractive alternative indeed.  Heavier users may be better off with devices with bigger battery packs, but if you’ve moved beyond vaping vape pens and the cigalike devices and just love the ‘big boy’ look without the extra weight and size, this is an outstanding primary device.
