If you’re a SMOK fan, chances are that you’ve heard about the SMOK Alien mod. You may even have given it a trial run somewhere. If you never bothered to get around to buying your own, though, you might want to take a look at one of SMOK’s latest offerings before you make that move. The SMOK Alien Baby AL85 TC Starter Kit offers much of what makes the SMOK Alien such a popular choice, but does so in a smaller package that many people will find irresistible. In this SMOK Alien Baby AL85 TC Starter Kit Review, we’ll evaluate the device and see whether we think it’s worthy of your attention and find out if it can be classed as one of the best box mods on the market.
First, it’s important to understand that the name is pretty accurate here. This really is the “baby” version of the SMOK Alien, in that it’s fundamentally the same device as its larger cousin, except in mini form. That means a smaller size, and less power than the larger Alien. That’s about all it sacrifices, though, since this technological wonder offers plenty of functionality and features that should have most vapers drooling over it in no time at all.
It’s also got temperature control, and offers it in an easy-to-use manner that’s missing with many other more complex devices. That’s so important that it shouldn’t go unaddressed. The fact is that there’s always been a dividing line in the vaping community when it comes to technical complexity, and many beginner and less advanced vapers have been stuck with inferior vaping products simply because of the learning curve that’s often required for temperature control and customizable products. As more and more of these new devices incorporate those advanced features like sub-ohm capability into their simpler designs, beginners will be able to more easily transition into advanced vaping techniques.
The kit comes with the SMOK Alien Baby AL85 Mod, and a TFV8 Baby Tank with a 3-ml capacity for holding your favorite e-juice. You also receive one V8 Baby-Q2 Corre 0.4Ω dual coil that comes pre-installed with the device, as well as one V8 Baby-Q2 Corre 0.6Ω dual coil replacement. In addition to those essentials, the kit provides you with one USB cable for charging your device or downloading upgrades. And, of course, you get the normal user manual and an assortment of spare parts in case you lose anything. We compared the TFV8 to the TFV4 tank which you might be interested in.
The device itself is modest in size, at 71mm by 48mm by 27mm. It’s also relatively light, weighing in at only 120 grams. As the name suggests, it’s rated at 85-watts of power, and has a voltage range between 0.35V and 8.0V. The coil resistance can range from 0.1 – 3.0-ohm when operated in Wattage Mode, and 0.06-3.00 ohms when you’re using TC Mode. As for that temperature control, it allows you to achieve temperatures between 200 and 600 degrees Fahrenheit.
The SMOK Alien Baby may not have the power output offered by its larger cousin, but that doesn’t mean that it’s any sort of slouch when it comes to delivering the type of sustained power you need for thick clouds of favor and great taste. Thanks to the inclusion of the TFV8 Baby Tank, this system manages to produce more than enough vapor for the average vaping enthusiast, while delivering a pure juice taste that even many larger devices will struggle to match, making it one of the best e cig devices for it’s size.
Of course, portability is important too, and the Alien Baby offers that in droves. This device is small enough to fit in your pocket comfortably, and is discrete enough to be used in almost any setting without worrying that you’ll draw unwanted attention to yourself. Of course, in most instances you won’t mind the attention at all. The device is attractive enough that you’ll probably be thrilled to have people ask questions about it.
The device we tried was silver, but the SMOK Alien Baby is advertised as being available in colors that include black red, gun metal, and champagne gold. I’m actually thinking about ordering a black red model to use instead, and wish that I’d seen it before getting the silver. It really is a gorgeous mod with an outstanding decorative finish.
All in all, there’s little to dislike about this mod. Sure, the power output is not as great as the old SMOK Alien, but this is a miniature version so that’s to be expected. More importantly, however, our tests convinced us that the Alien Baby has all the power it needs to deliver the type of vapor and flavor that should satisfy a wide range of vaping fans. While I’d ordinarily include at least one drawback in a review like this, I can’t really find anything worth complaining about. In short, this is a great device that would make a fine addition to your vaping collection.
