In-depth VooPoo Drag 3 Starter Kit Review

VooPoo Drag 3 TPP-X

VooPoo have long been enjoying the success of the Drag model, one of the best box mods to hit the market, and as such, it’s only natural for them to try to enhance it a little more to produce something even better. But, do they succeed in their goal, and how does this mod compare with other types on the market? Well, we take an in-depth look and give the VooPoo Drag 3 TPP-X starter kit a good going over!

Design

Design of the VooPoo Drag 3

One thing for sure is that we think VooPoo has nailed the design of the Drag 3. It’s keeping with the Drag family design without going too overboard and making it look like something from outer space!

The main body of the main mod is a mixture of luxurious leather and Zinc Alloy metal with what can be described as hard geometric lines running down the body and the nice imprinted DRAG logo. It is very fetching and aesthetically pleasing.

Including the tank the Drag 3 measures a total height of 138mm, which is rather large for a mod, but about average for a dual 18650 battery mod. The width measures in at 52mm and a depth of 25mm. All in all, the overall size is pretty much on spot with comparison to the past DRAG models.

Features

Specification of the VooPoo Drag 3

The DRAG 3 box mod is boasting the new GENE.FAN 2.0 chip is meant to give the mod more explosive power, stable output, and richer intelligent functions. If you can translate that, then these improvements are probably appreciated, but for the average vaper you will only really notice the speed of the power delivery to the coil!

So what is the TPP bit in the name? Well, it points to the types of coils used in this kit, that is, the new TPP Series coils. These patented coils are designed specifically to speed the heating of the coil to produce a quicker more intensive vape.

The Drag 3 Starter kit comes with 2 coils, the TPP DM1 which is a 0.15ohm mesh coil, and the TPP DM2 which is the 0.2ohm mesh coil.

Performance

VooPoo Drag 3 Performance

Overview of the Voopoo Drag 3

Now to the interesting bit, the performance. We all know the VooPoo Drag 2 was awesome, so how good is the DRAG 3? Well starting with the TPP DM1 coil, which is best between 60-80W we’re starting at 60W. Usually, when we test these kits we need to vape half the tank to burn off any residual oils or dust, but to be honest the taste is pretty good straight out the gate. Granted, we did absolutely flood the coil before inserting it, but that’s a given these days. Pumping the wattage up to 70 watts you can feel the power and the warmer vape. I think pushing it to anything over 70W is a little extreme and more likely to burn the coils out quicker. But if you like a hot vape, then go for it!

Switching coils to the 0.2ohm DM2 which is best vaped at 40-60 watts, we’re starting at 40W! Again we have soaked the coil prior to remove any chance of dry hits and to prolong the life of the coil. Again, the flavor is coming out on the first draw, these coils seem to be pretty strong and for me, this is a more pleasant coil if you prefer a cooler relaxing vape! Slowly increasing the wattage warms the vape up, but not as much as the DM1 coil. The airflow seems a little more resistant with the DM2 coil, but there really is not much in it.

Conclusion

So is the VooPoo Drag 3 one of the best vapes of 2022? Well, both coils, the DM1, and DM2 are really nice coils. For myself, the DM2 pinches the lead, but only just. Overall, the DRAG 3 is a performance beast! A nice quick vape that seems to be very responsive and able to handle the higher wattages with ease. This makes the whole vaping experience a very good one, with bags of flavor coming from the coils, it’s hard for us to find something wrong.

With that in mind, the only negativity we have heard is about the case opening for the batteries. This is a personal thing I guess, as I quite like it and doesn’t bother me at all! I do not have a problem recommending the VooPoo Drag 3 to experienced vapers and vapers who want a little more of a hit than the pods you see everywhere these days!
