The Full In-Depth Review of the Wismec EXO Skeleton Mod

When my wife first saw the EXO Skeleton, she gleefully pointed out that this mod was going to cause the same uproar that Liz Hurley’s safety pin dress did so many years ago, (if you don’t remember here’s the link!). It’s aggressively different – but does it deliver the goods? Let’s zoom in on the features:

 

Transparent Chassis with LED Lights

For such a radical design departure Wismec came up with a chassis of semi-transparent acrylic glass which is impact and heat resistant. You can see the batteries and the circuit board, and even watch a modest display of tiny LED pinpoints in action while you vape (or switch them off for stealth mode). A removable, replaceable decorative ‘cage’ protects the glass, makes the mod easier to grip and protects the firing button from accidental pressure. The covering cages come in Red, Blue, and Silver with matching color KAGE tanks. It certainly looks like one of the best vape or box mods on the market, but how does it compare?
 

Completely Different Layout:

It’s a chunky mod due to the rounded irregular triangular (polygonal) shape of the chassis which can accommodate three batteries. You can choose only to use two batteries, but the size remains the same, unlike the SMOK GX2/4 where you can use different chassis attachments to reduce the mod size. The OLED screen and adjustment buttons have been moved to the top of the mod next to the tank, and only the firing button and micro-USB port for firmware upgrades and charging remain on the side. The dimensions are 86mm high, and respectively 50.7 mm and 49.7mm broad on the other sides. The fire button is near the top, inside the protective cage.

 

Smaller Screen:

The new 16.7mm (0.66inch) screen still contains all the necessary information about your settings. However, it shares the space on the top of the mod with the large KAGE tank, and the display is now somewhat smaller, with the setting buttons set at the edge. This may bother some users who have become used to a large OLED display on the side panel.

 

3 Batteries, Outrageous Power:

You can use either two or three batteries, and chugging along at over 110W all day will still get you a full day of battery life. Onboard charging is routine. When you use two batteries, the mod has a max of 200W and 8V output, while three batteries will go up to 300W and 9V. The maximum output current is 50A whether you use two or three batteries. There is a child-proof locking mechanism on the battery compartment which opens at the bottom. So you are going to have to splash out on 3 x 18650 batteries, but keep an eye in our vape deals section where you may get them for a song!

 

The 510 Connector:

You may be able to use smaller atomizers as the spring loaded 510-pin should be compatible with most other atomizers. The KAGE atomizer has a huge 28mm diameter, mainly due to the protective ‘cage’ around the glass tank. However, here, the Wismec may have an Achilles heel. There have been isolated early reports of e-juice leaking through the 510-pin into the battery compartment and electrical board, leading to unsafe vaping conditions. Luckily, it’s easy to spot due to the transparent chassis, and if your unit shows any sign of condensation anywhere, you should get a replacement from Wismec.
 

The Kage Atomizer With Kanthal Coils:

The exclusive, custom-designed KAGE tank is 55.1mm tall and has a 28mm diameter though it only holds a legally limited 2.8ml e-juice to comply with EU legislation. There is a 5ml version available for other users, but do keep in mind that the larger tank is not taller, it has a larger diameter than the 2ml tank, and you won’t be able to fit the protective cage back on.

The Delrin drip tip has a longer connecting lining and extends deeper into the tank than usual. The top fill feature is brilliant – firmly push the cover to the side to expose a nice, large filling port for mess-free refills. The sizeable airflow slots can be manually controlled for looser or tighter draws, making it suitable for MTL and DL vapers.

The KAGE has two horizontal Kanthal A1 coil heads, with replacement coils available. The flavor production is excellent, competitive with all the best e cigs shown here and most users won’t wish to change anything. The TC mode supports nickel, stainless steel, and titanium, however, if you want to use TC mode, you’ll have to use a different tank as the KAGE tank only supports Kanthal.

OVERALL

The Wismec EXO Skeleton is a “Big Mod” in shape, size, and appearance. It is Bold, capital B intended. It may be a little large for users with small hands but performs extremely well, with excellent taste and vapor production and top control over your vaping experience. Some users will love the new look, others won’t, but it is a great mod!
