The best mech mods for vaping
If you’re new to vaping and have heard of mech mods – otherwise known as “mechanical mods” – then chances are that you’ve assumed that they’re only for the most diehard vapers. That impression is mainly due to their status as “rebuildable” devices that can accommodate those sub-ohm coils that you need for room-filling cloud trails. They also tend to lack those basic safety protections that can prevent you from blowing up your neighborhood (okay, that’s an exaggeration, but you could really start a fire) by mishandling your battery. Because of those factors, most experts recommend that you have some experience with vaping tools before you get excited and start looking for the best mech mods. Alternatively, if you want a more straight forward mod, that’s safe and easy to use, then you should look at the standard box mods.

The Best Mech Mods

In reality, though, you don’t need to be an expert with years of vaping experience to appreciate the results that a mech mod can offer. These are, after all, fairly basic vaporizer devices. They’re comprised of a tube that houses a rechargeable battery more often that not the 18650 battery. There’s generally a button located on the tube that powers up the atomizer with unregulated current. Thus, they are similar to advanced personal vaporizers – just without all those special protective features.

While their rebuildable attributed might make mech mods a little too much for many beginners to handle, others just need some basic instruction to begin to use them. Still, both beginners and advanced users alike need to know which mech mods they can rely on and which they should avoid. We’re here to help with that determination process, by looking at some of the best mech mods on the market today.

The Wismic Noisy Cricket II

The Wismec Noisy Cricket II Mech ModAs mech mods go, you’ll have a hard time finding a good one for less money than the $35 this unit commands. It’s not for the inexperienced, of course, since it includes even fewer safety features than most of its peers. There are no markers to help identify polarity, which can make it difficult for some users to manage. Still, the device does offer a tremendous amount of power to its users, and can be ideal if you’re into chasing the room-filling clouds. It even comes in six different colors, and is relatively compact at a height of 79mm.

The Wotofo Phantom Mod

The Wotofo Phantom Mod mech modThis mech mod is a somewhat pricier $35, but offers improved aesthetic appeal and adjustment options. Its customization options enable you to switch out the firing springs, adjust the copper center pins, and choose between other features as well. It’s also designed for maximum connectivity to its 18650 battery, to ensure that it fires with efficiency each time. Those features, added to its diverse compatibility for different sub ohm tanks and atomizers makes it an ideal mech mod for hobbyists and casual vapers alike.

Gp Custom Akuma V2

The Gp Custom Akuma V2 Mech ModAt just under $142, the Gp Custom Akuma is a 22mm wonder that arrives with several bodies – an 18350 and 18940 – as well as an 18650 extension. All three are made of the finest red copper. The mod also provides its user with silver contacts that have been coated with copper, and a top cap and ring made of quality brass. There’s a serial number engraved on the mod tube. Most inviting of all, the box that contains the mod was crafted by hand – by Filipino tribesmen.

Stingray X Mechanical Mod

The Stingray X Mechanical ModThe Stingray X is one of the more aesthetically gorgeous mods out there, and constructs its tubes from stainless steel and copper. That enables the device to provide maximum connectivity, while also creating a stronger device that can withstand even moderately rough use – though it’s difficult to imagine anyone being too hard on these beautiful units. It uses a 510 connection that makes it standard for most other devices, and can be used with both the 18650 battery or the 18490. This is a personal favorite that you can get for under $25 online.

The Glas Mechanical Mod

The Glas Mechanical ModHere’s a mech mod that’s big enough to handle the 18650 battery, but small enough to be used with your other devices. Its unique aesthetic appeal is based on its stainless-steel construction – ours appeared to all intents and purposes to be 100% flawless – and sophisticated, high-end design. It has that same 501-compatible connector, with adjustable pin for connecting to just about any atomizer that you have handy. It also uses copper contacts for both the positive and negative, to give it that ideal conductivity that you need for perfect vaping every time. And the best feature? You can get it for around $20.

The Munstro by 2Puffs

Munstro by 2Puffs Mech ModFinally, we need to mention the $165 Munstro by 2Puffs. You might think that price sounds a bit outrageous for a simple mech mod – and you’d be right. Fortunately, that $165 will get you three mech mods, all made using different metals. The first is a Red Copper tube fitted for the 18650. The second is Marine Brass, and uses the same 18650 battery. The third option is an 18490 stainless-steel 304 tube. All three arrive in a gorgeous wooden case, and have silver-plated pins and a tritone driptip.

Remember

Of course, this list just scratches the surface when it comes to a more complete look at the top mech mods. For our money, though, you can’t go wrong with any of these top options, and will get hours of vaping enjoyment from any of the mech mods we’ve looked at here.
