In-depth FreeMax Twister AIO Vape Pen Review
FreeMax has released a vape pen with a slight difference, variable wattage. There are so many awesome vape pens on the market, but only a few offer the variable wattage feature, without compromising the size of the device. So is the FreeMax Twister the answer to all those vapers who prefer the smaller vape pen-style device without affecting performance? Let’s take a look to see!
Design
The first striking feature of the FreeMax Twister is the graphic like design plastered on the outside, it is definitely loud and bright, but they have 6 different designs to choose from. Unfortunately, they don’t offer any solid colors at the moment, but that may change in the future. If you’re after a less flamboyant color, then we suggest going for either the black or white designs.
The overall length of the FreeMax Twister is pretty good considering it’s a variable wattage device with a built-in 2300mAh battery, measuring in at just under 150mm long (including the tank) with a diameter at 24.7mm.
On the base of the FreeMax Twister, you will find the manual dial with a small window showing the current set wattage. Simply twist this to change the wattage to your preferred setting. It’s nice to have a simple wattage control like this, and obviously, you’re not going to have problems seeing the settings in different light conditions! One exception is though, the font is rather small.
The power button is an oval shape and uses the standard 5 clicks on, 5 clicks off feature, with a light around the edge of the button indicating the battery level, ie:
- Green: 100 – 65% battery life
- Amber: 65 – 30% battery life
- Red: 30 – 0% battery life
The tank is the Fireluke 2 mesh style tank with 5ml capacity thanks to the bubble glass design. The color matches the base unit and as a complete kit, it looks pretty good.
Features
The variable wattage feature is the one thing that sets the FreeMax Twister apart from its competition. You can adjust this from 5W – 80 Watts, so an impressive range for a small vape pen.
The capacity of the battery is 2300mAh which is competitive in its range and very good considering the size. Do bear in mind though, vaping at 70-80W is going to draw the battery level quicker and unlikely to last the day if you’re a chain vaper. You will have to charge it in this case, but as it uses a standard USB with a 1amp charge it only takes around an hour to fully charge.
The Fireluke 2 tank that comes with the FreeMax Twister is a great choice for this device. It is a 5ml capacity tank with adjustable airflow, top refill and comes with 2 different mesh coils for the user to try out, one is a single mesh coil (X2, 0.2 ohms) and a double mesh coil (X3 0.15ohm).
Performance
With all vape pens, there's usually not much you can test, but with the variable wattage feature on the FreeMax Twister, we can adjust things to create a more custom vape.
First, we’re testing with the single mesh coil set to 70W and the airflow as wide open as it can. The single mesh coil allows a lot more airflow to flow through the device, so if you like plenty of air, this will suit. We prefer closing the airflow to ¾ to produce our sweet spot.
The dual mesh coil set to slightly higher 80W and again with the airflow wide open produces, what we believe, a better vape. In our opinion, the vape seems a little smoother and gets more out of your juice.
Both coils are utilizing the combination of 90% Porous Flax Cotton and 10% regular cotton, which we tend to see on the newer coils. This improves the wicking of the cotton and improves the overall taste of the juice.
TL;DR
It’s really nice to see a new style of vape pen with the FreeMax Twister; I’m talking mainly of the variable wattage feature. It’s great to be able to adjust to suit your preference.
The Fireluke 2 tank that comes with the kit performs really well with 2 mesh coils (single and double) for the user to try, both produce a great flavor thanks to the Porous Flax Cotton and its ability to wick really well.
The FreeMax Twister is the perfect vape pen for the experienced vaper who wants to adjust the output to their preference, but not really designed for a new vaper or someone who wants an e-cigarette to quit smoking with, there are better models on the market to suit. The overall size makes it easy to carry around with you and the only negative we found was the capacity of the battery. Although it is a 2300mAh capacity, vaping at the top end of the scale, i.e. 70-80W draws a lot of power and it’s likely you will need to recharge during the day.
That said, we think that this vape pen is one of the best e-cigs on the market and with the variable wattage feature, coupled with a great performing tank, we believe you will be more than happy with the FreeMax Twister vape pen.
