In-Depth Review of the Aspire SkyStar Revvo Kit
Aspire are well known in the vaping community and this time they are trying something a little different with their new box mod! The Aspire SkyStar Revvo Kit looks a little retro and with dual 18650 batteries it achieves up to 210Watts, but how does this kit compare with the best vape mods on the market? Is it one to buy, or just another mod release with nothing special to deliver? Let’s take a look to see!
Design
Aspire have definitely come out with a completely new design compared to other mods.
Available in a whole mix of colors including slate blue, black carbon fiber, white, woodgrain and blue camo you should be able to find one you like!
The mod is measuring in at 50mm width by 91mm tall and a depth of 33mm making it a slightly bigger mod than it’s competition like the new Council of Vapor Xion kit and the SMOK Mag Kit, but with the rounded corners it really doesn’t feel that big!
If you like your curves, you’ll like the design of this mod kit!
Operating The Mod
The fire button is actually on the front of the mod, above the screen. It has the usual feature to turn the device on with the 5 clicks, to lock the device once switch on its 5 clicks again. To switch the mod off, hold the button down for 2 seconds when the mod is locked. A little different in comparison to the best e-cigarettes on the market but it’s good to be different! Now, when the mod is on clicking this button 3 times doesn’t show the menu area, it actually puts the mod into stealth mode, meaning the screen switches off but the mod is still on and operational.
So how do you access the menu? This actually meant I had to read the instructions! It’s not obvious, but swipe your finger down the screen twice and hey presto, you’re in the menu!!
In the menu, you can change the mode from wattage to temperature control and even set it to bypass mode to act as an unregulated mod. It also allows you to customize your vape with custom power curves shown on the menu as CPS. This is where you can fire your mod at different power levels through one draw, ideal for temperature control users.
The Tank
Within the Aspire SkyStar Revvo Kit, you get the Revvo tank that comes in 2 designs, one to suit TDP regulations and features a 2ml reservoir and a regular version featuring a 3.6ml reservoir. They are both 24mm in diameter and the regular tank is 4mm longer measuring in at 45mm.
It features 2 airflow holes at the top of the tank, which are both adjustable and the top features a huge drip tip! This is great for those who love a lot of airflows to produce big clouds!
This is a top fill tank, but the beauty is you don’t have to remove or slide anything to fill it up! Down the drip tip, you will see a center pin which is spring loaded, put the nozzle of your e-liquid bottle into this pin, push it down a little to open and fill her up baby! Works great and doesn’t leak at all. Saying that, if you have a glass dripper however you may struggle a little, no, a lot, we just couldn’t do it!
The coils are weird too! Looks like a coin, but with the recommended power of around 80-85 watts, the coil works really well. Let’s see if other manufacturers follow suit with this new design.
Performance
Everything seems to be as expected, it produces some great flavor and some decent looking clouds. The mod is a little larger and laid out differently so it does take a little time to get used to.
Turning the wattage up we did experience some slight dry hits, but giving the mod a shake and turning it upside down allowed the cotton in the coil to saturate again, and the good news, no e-liquid came flying out!
At around $80 this mod is at the midrange level and operates like it! You can get some good vape deals on this mod and other mods, so it’s probably worth waiting until then.
The Negatives
Aspire state that it’s good to turn the mod upside down every 2-3 vapes to allow the coil to re-saturate. Weird and you look weird doing it. We didn’t experience this dry burn, so I wouldn’t bother until you actually experience a dry hit!
The new screen menu takes a little getting used to, especially the swiping up and down to adjust settings but once you get used to it it’s pretty easy to use.
Not all e-liquid bottles work with the tank top fill spring. You have to remove the top cap to fill it up!
To Conclude
Aspire’s SkyStar Revvo Kit is a good looking and pretty average performing mod. Not too impressed with the filing of the tank. It’s nice to see Aspire have designed the touchscreen well, so you don’t accidentally adjust the settings and burn your coil out. Overall I think this will resonate better with those who like the retro design, but on a pure vaping prospective, nothing really to get excited about!
