In-depth Joyetech Riftcore DUO Coil-less RTA Tank Review
We love the innovations coming out of the vaping community and one new concept was quickly tried and then forgotten by a lot of manufacturers. The coil free tank, but now Joyetech has got involved and designed their version using ceramic plates as a heating element with a puff capacity of a million vapes. So has Joyetech finally succeeded in the coil free tank, or is this just another attempt at achieving the impossible, let’s find out!
Design
Joyetech is using 2 ceramic plates instead of coils which they are calling the RFC heaters, which apparently eliminates any risk of creating and blending metal oxides into your e-liquid. This means the whole build is different, which will look into when we explore the deck.
The look of the tank has therefore been designed around this technology and to be honest, it looks no different in size and style to other sub-ohm tanks, which in our opinion is a good thing. Measuring in with a 26mm diameter and 47mm tall, including the drip tip.
The capacity of the tank holds 3.5ml of juice which is just about average these days and available right now in 3 colors, black, blue and gold, but Joyetech will probably release more colors if it becomes popular enough.
A couple of other points with the Joyetech Riftcore DUO, first, it is a top fill tank, but you have to remove the drip tip in order to slide the top cap to one side where you see the fill hole, it has actually been designed that way to prevent the tank from accidentally opening. The second point is the tank has 3 reasonably sized air slots to allow decent and adjustable airflow.
The tank will work with any of the best e-cig devices out there, but make sure it is wattage controlled so you can find the sweet spot. That pretty much means any standard box mod and any vape pen with adjustable wattage.
The Deck
This is probably the most interesting part of the Riftcore DUO! The dual RFC heaters have molecule technology within, which is aimed to heat the elements as evenly as possible.
With the dual heating elements they create a resistance of about 0.25-ohms, but Joyetech state that one element can be removed and thus changing the resistance to 0.5-ohms. It’s easy to do with the provided tool.
Wicking is really easy with this tank, which makes a change with RTA’s! There are no screws to tighten, no hot spots to check for or any other of the problems you get with coils. Simply either use the cotton provided, which is cut to the correct length or use the measuring tool they provide to cut your own cotton and simply place is between the heating elements and your done!
It really is that simple, nothing more just wick the cotton with a few drops of your e-liquid and screw the tank back together. We suggest purchasing some of the best vape cotton for RTA’s although the cotton Joyetech provides is pretty good.
To replace the cotton, simply unscrew the tank, remove the cotton then it’s best to dry burn the heating elements at around 30W for a few seconds to clean. Place your new cotton between the elements and your good to go!
Performance
Joyetech state in the manual that this tank is best vaped between 30-50 watts, so initially testing at the lower end of this range is our first test!
A somewhat muted vape we feel, the flavor is certainly coming through and vaping it over and over doesn’t produce any wicking problems so no dry burns. Ramping the wattage up to 50-watts produces a much better vape, still good flavor with a slightly warmer vape.
We actually found pushing the wattage higher still to a max of 60-watts produces the best vape, but every vaper is different so adjust accordingly. At the higher wattage, we still experienced no dry hits whatsoever even when chain vaping. Whether vaping at these higher wattages affects the lifespan of the heating elements is unknown, but Joyetech state it should last a million vapes, which is equivalent to many months of vaping.
To Conclude
We were pleasantly surprised with the Joyetech Riftcore DUO RTA tank, we didn’t expect it to perform as well as it did, beating many other regular sub-ohm tanks. Granted it’s not the best RTA out there, but for a coil-less tank, it’s nothing short of awesome!
Great flavor, great vapor (when vaped at around 55-60W), easy to replace the coil, easy to clean and the main positive, no more having to purchase ridiculously expensive coils! Ideal for a new vaper moving on from cigalikes, vape pens or even sub ohm tanks wanting to experiment with RTA’s and wants to save a few dollars!
If you want an easy to build RTA which requires no coil building and produces great flavor, then the Joyetech Riftcore DUO will definitely meet your requirement!
